Top Things to do in the Sunshine Coast

Finding the best Sunshine Coast attractions can be easy. This spectacular part of Queensland is known for its surf beaches, hinterland, and resorts, making it the perfect spot to enjoy the iconic relaxed Aussie way of life, even just for a few days.

If you enjoy relaxing on the beach, enjoying local markets, going on nature walks, and discovering hidden local gems, there’s plenty of fun Sunshine Coast attractions for you.

Fly into the Sunshine Coast Airport, formerly known as Maroochydore, or cruise up the coast on a road trip. Only an hour and a half from Brisbane, it’s an easy weekend away.

Hard to imagine a more relaxing place for a stroll.

Coastal Walks

The Sunshine Coast is home to many coastal walks, all of them with great views out over the ocean. Mooloolaba to Alexandra Headland, Noosa National Park, Kings Beach to Bulcock Beach, Currimundi Lake Trails, and Stumers Creek are just a few great walks along the Sunshine Coast.

If you’re staying in Noosa, you’re literally just minutes away from Noosa National Park. While you’re there, you can find walks for all fitness levels. Some of the most popular include the 7km return Coastal Track , the Tanglewood Track, and Boiling Pot.

A top tip- after your walk, stop into Betty’s Burgers on Hastings Street in Noosa for a well-earned burger and milkshake. There’s plenty of waterfront Airbnbs to check out in Noosa too.

Most of the walks have you walking with the ocean on one side and lush bushland on the other. Some walks are rugged trails while others are already so popular they have dedicated walking paths—perfect if you’re walking with young ones or anyone in need of more stable ground.

Even in winter, the Queensland sun can be intense, so don’t forget sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water. For safety, always let someone else know where you’re going bush walking and when you expect to be back.

Aussie World

Thrill seekers might not be satisfied with a charming walk along the coast, and luckily for them, Aussie World isn’t far away.

The Aussie World amusement park is full of both exhilarating rides and family-friendly rides, live performances, events, and even a built-in local pub (The Banana Bender Pub) where you can enjoy a classic pub feed.

Head to Aussie World for a day of fun for the whole family.

Wild Horse Mountain Lookout

The Glasshouse Mountains are amazing formations that stand tall and proud up from the Earth. There are a lot of great hikes and trails along the mountains, but if you want to get the best possible views, you’ll want to head up to Wild Horse Mountain Lookout.

Wild Horse Mountain is the smallest of the Glasshouse Mountains at only 123 metres above sea level. It also gives the best views of the rest of the mountains with 360° views from the lookout.

Be prepared for the steep 700 metre walk up to the lookout to take in the views of the mountains, the rolling green hills, and (on a clear day) even all the way to Brisbane.

Queensland has some of the best diving in the world.

Scuba and Snorkelling

Diving with sharks might be a little intimidating to some, but to others it’s a dream. Of course, diving with small fish and vibrant coral can be wonderous as well and much less scary to those with a fear of sharks.

Join a scuba or snorkelling class or group on the Sunshine Coast and discover the whole other world that exists under the water.

The waters of Queensland are rich in marine life, including sea turtles, tropical fish, and even whales, in the winter months. Head under the sea to discover one of the most unique and biodiverse parts of Australia.

Rick’s Garage

A retro Australian, 1950s-themed diner is a great way to end the day on the Sunshine Coast. Walk into rockabilly music, retro clothing, hot rods, and sit down to enjoy quality local food.

The vibrant atmosphere of Rick’s is what keeps people coming back and what makes dinner at the garage a unique experience. Enjoy classic diner-style food including burgers and shakes before relaxing at the end of the evening in Rick’s whiskey bar where you can enjoy a drink of whiskey (of course) or a fun cocktail.

Head into Rick’s on Thursday to Sunday and enjoy live music with your meal and/or drinks.
