It’s one of the most iconic surf towns in Australia, if not the world—Byron Bay. Set in Northern NSW, not far from the Queensland border, it’s one of my favourite places in the world for relaxing.
Swimming, ocean kayaking, diving, and exploring the inland area known as the Hinterland (check out Killen Falls, pictured above) make Byron incredible, not to mention the food, cafes, and the area’s connection to spirituality and nature.
If you’re road-tripping or just want a weekend away, where are you going to stay? There are plenty of great hotels in Byron, but they tend to get booked out fast—and aren’t cheap.
Recently, I’ve been loving staying at Airbnbs, since they’re more unique, you have plenty of private space for yourself, plus cooking facilities.
What are the best Airbnbs in Byron Bay? Here are a few of my favourites—I love them because they’re completely unique, reasonably priced, and in great locations.
Bodhi Treehouse
Set in the Byron Bay Hinterland on 17 acres of rainforest, the Bodhi Treehouse is an amazing place if you want somewhere peaceful and scenic to unwind in nature. It’s seven minutes from Byron, so still close enough to split your time between the Hinterland and the beach—the top floor has ocean views.
Plus, it’s an eco-friendly treehouse! Everything inside is eco-friendly and made from recycled materials. On-site yoga is offered a few days per week, so check it out if you need a few days to destress.
There’s no Wi-Fi or aircon, but that’s part of the charm sometimes.
Super Luxe Scandi
If you’re looking to rent your own house, just outside Byron, the Scandi is an easy 20-minute walk from town—but if the beach is still too far away, you have your own private pool.
Designed in a clean and simple Scandinavian style, this place would make an amazing backdrop for a photo shoot or just a weekend away. I love the large floor to ceiling windows, creating a blend of indoor and outdoor living.
Wi-Fi is included, but the hosts state that the property isn’t suited for kids under the age of 12.

Rio Villa
This convenient beachfront location means you probably won’t even need to rent a car—Rio Villa offers a one-bedroom villa with a private pool, complete with a waterfall.
I love the outdoor bath, modern design, and perfect location.
Possum Shoot Shed
This spacious barn is called the Possum Shoot Shed—what’s not to like? It’s set 10km from Byron and gives you plenty of space to relax. Two bedrooms plus a huge open plan kitchen and dining room mean it would be lots of fun if you like to cook or have friends over.
Pineapple Cottage
Pineapple Cottage is an adorable bungalow right in town, making it easy to walk anywhere. You’ve got a small private pool and the cottage is decorated in a beautiful beachy style, complete with Smeg appliances in the kitchen.
Wi-Fi is included too—this would be my top choice of the list if planning a trip to Byron.
Byron Bay isn’t the only awesome town in NSW! Here’s some more of the most unique towns in NSW.
Village Glamping
There’s something so fun about glamping—it’s both luxurious and rustic at the same time. If you’re looking for a Byron glamping experience, check out these guys. Village Glamping has a few oversized tents, done up in a beautiful style.
Guests have access to shared bathrooms and cooking facilities. Glamping is a great option if you’re on a budget, but still want something more private than a shared dorm at a hostel. All the setting up is taken care of for you, and you sleep on real beds. Bikes are also provided for the short ride into town.
NSW has plenty to offer, beyond Byron—check out Mudgee, the Southern Highlands, and Thredbo, to name a few.
Byron’s Bamboo Studio
This serene, relaxing studio is in a great location and is more affordable than you’d expect. With a private sun deck and outdoor lounge, tasteful decor, and just a 15-minute walk from town, the Bamboo Studio feels more like a luxury hotel suite than a studio apartment.
Would be a great choice for couples looking for a memorable place to stay. Wi-Fi is included and there’s also a separate workspace.
East Coast Escape
With views of Byron’s famous lighthouse, East Coast Escape is a one-bedroom apartment that lets you wake up each morning to sea views. There’s an oversized soaking tub and a gorgeous balcony, but the kitchen is limited—this one is best if you plan on going out to eat for most of your meals.
The Treehouse
Would you spend the night in a treehouse? Seriously, this one of the coolest, most luxurious treehouses I’ve ever seen. Set a short drive from town in the Hinterland, the Treehouse is an architecturally stunning property is made entirely from steel and glass, giving you 360-degree views of the world around you.
Honestly, I think I’m obsessed with this place, so book it quickly before I do!
A Few Byron Tips
- Byron is always popular, but with the surge of domestic travel this year, the town is booming! Book as soon as possible, especially for summer travel. Making reservations for restaurants is also a good idea.
- Do you need a car? If you’re staying in town, you can easily walk most anywhere. Parking is also at a huge premium, so prepare for traffic if you’re driving.
- Airbnbs can be a good way to save money—there are plenty of grocery stores in town where you can pick up everything you need once you arrive.
- Have an amazing time! Byron is unlike anywhere else.
