About

Life’s a beach, so make the most of it. (Cape Leveque in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, to be specific…)

Who is The Accidental Australian?

For reasons she herself is still not entirely sure of, Katie picked up one day and decided to move to Australia. After navigating several visas and more immigration paperwork than one should ever need, she is now honoured to be a permanent resident of the country.

I started the Accidental Australian way back in 2013 to help friends and family back home in the US know what it was like to live down under. It has since evolved into an award-winning travel and expat blog, and I love helping others understand what it’s like in Australia and help them make the most of their time here.

If you’re an American expat relocating to Australia, a backpacker, or even just planning a holiday, we can help- this blog is all about expat life and how to best experience Australia (as well as New Zealand and Asia), especially if you seek out quirky, off-the-beaten path things to do, or if you’re the outdoors and adventure travel type.

Despite the huntsmen spiders and the bluebottles, Sydney is one of the best places on earth, and I hope you love it as much as I do!

My two cents: Travel as much as you can without regret, and pause to see the humor in the little things.
